Funeral services for Mary A. Broxton, 59, of 75 Broxton St., Bamberg, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in the Midway Community of Bamberg. The burial will follow in Bamberg County Memory Gardens, with the repast after in the church fellowship hall.
She died Friday, July 31, at MUSC Medical Center, Charleston.
She was born Dec. 5, 1955, to the late Henry and Marjorie Reggler Broxton in Bamberg. At an early age, she accepted Christ and was baptized at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Bamberg. After relocating to Georgia, she joined St. Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Sandersville as a watch care member. Mary attended the public schools of Bamberg County and was a 1974 graduate of Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in education from Claflin University, Orangeburg. She continued her education at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia, receiving a master of education degree in administration and supervision. Mary continued to further her education at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, and received a degree as an educational specialist in educational leadership. Mary was employed as an educator for 35 years serving in Orangeburg County and Allendale County and Job Corps, all in S.C. and in Washington County, Georgia. She also was a member of Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are a loving daughter, Bonita Angel Broxton of the home; two brothers, Willie J. ”Scobbie” Broxton of Bamberg and the Rev. Manzie “Tank” Broxton of Sandersville; four aunts, Mary S. Robinson of Bamberg, Sheldonia Hubbard and Mildred Williams, both of Brooklyn, New York, and Josephine Robinson of Slocomb, Alabama; and an uncle, James “Bubba” Robinson of Hempstead, New York.
The family will be greeting friends at the home.
Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg will be in charge of the services.
