BAMBERG -- Deacon George Henry Ray Jr., 86, affectionately known as “Dee Dee Furse,” was born Tuesday, Aug. 22, 1933, in Denmark, to the late George Henry Ray Sr. and Lissie Furse Stroman.
He was called home Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, at Bamberg Pruitt Home. Mr. Ray was married to his loving and devoted wife, Ella S. Ray, for over 61 years.
Deacon Ray moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a member of the usher board of Tabernacle Baptist Church and worked for Local #79 for over 62 years. After over 35 years he returned to Denmark and Greater Sweet Branch Baptist Church of Govan, where he was on the Usher Board, Sunday school, Men's Ministry and was chairman of the Deacons Board.
At 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, Deacon Ray was eulogized by Rev. B.F. Cave (pastor of GSBBC) and laid to rest.

He leaves to cherish his beautiful memory, his wife; two children, Tracy (Darlene) Ray and Shelda Ray; three grandchildren, Takesha, Terrell and Gregory, and one great-grandchild, Leila, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers; five sisters; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
