Funeral services for Emma K. White of Holly Hill will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Greater Unity AME Church, 744 Coach Road, Holly Hill. The Rev. Julius Steed, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, at Shuler-Marshall Funeral Home of Holly Hill.
The body will be placed in the Greater Unity AME Church at 6 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the church.
Emma, affectionately known as "Kat," was born Nov. 12, 1956, in Holly Hill, the daughter of the late Lawton J. and Sarah Jacques White. She died Thursday, March 12, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
She was a lifelong member of Greater Unity AME Church in Holly Hill. She served as president of the Stewardess Board, a capacity in which she prepared communion monthly.
Emma graduated from Roberts High School in 1975 and received her bachelor of science and master's degrees in mathematics from South Carolina State University.
She was employed for 29 years by Orangeburg Consolidated School District Three as a mathematics teacher. She served as chairperson of the mathematics department at Lake Marion High School for many years and was twice voted Teacher of the Year.
She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Summerville Alumnae and several other organizations.
Those left with memories that will forever linger include her four brothers, Michael Anthony White, Horace (Janice) White and Curtis Vernard White, all of Holly Hill, and Alex Alexander (Charleszetta Jenkins, fiance') White of Columbia; nieces and nephews, Jamario White, Janaye White and Jada White, all of Holly Hill, Sharrod (Yolanda) White, Renard White and Terrence Smalls, all of Vance, and Tiffany White (Rodney) McKune of Summerton; aunts and uncles, Lasalle (Verline) Jacques, Horace (Rose) Jacques and Eddie Jacques, all of Orangeburg, Gourdine Jacques of Holly Hill, Lula W. Barnes of Eutawville, Robert White Jr. Vernell W. (Johnny Jr.) Smalls and Estell W. (Leroy) Haney, all of Holly Hill, Betty White of Harleyville, Kenneth (Carolyn) White of White Plains, New York, Lawrence White of Beacon, New York, and Tom Wearing of Eutawville; a godchild, Little Miss Amani Burgess of Summerville; a very close cousin, Shalaya L. Higgins of Holly Hill; and a number of grandnieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
