ORANGEBURG -- Emily Ruth Wiles Rourk, 88, the widow of James Isaac Rourk Sr., entered into etrnal rest on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Jolley Acres Healthcare Center after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 31, 1930, in Elloree, she was the daughter of the late Charles Wesley Wiles and Rosa Hungerpiller Wiles.
Emily was a longtime member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Evergreen Garden Club. She loved tending her flowers and could make a flower bloom from a stick, it seemed.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jake; and son, Lewis Earl Rourk. She also was predeceased by her 10 siblings, brothers Decatur, Edward, Harry, Hazel, Hubert, Marion, Asbury and Furman Wiles, and sisters Mary Pritcher and Dorothy Rourk.
Emily leaves behind a son, James Isaac Rourk Jr. of Murphy, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Jenny Kirby Rourk of Elloree; granddaughters, Elizabeth Noel Rourk of Murphy and Emily Rourk Gibbs (Edward) of Irmo; grandson, Sean Patrick Rourk of Murphy; great-granddaughters, Charlotte Ruth and Catherine Pearl Gibbs of Irmo; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Jerusalem UMC in Elloree, with the Rev. Hope Avins officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Emily's name to Hope for BraveHEARTS, P.O. Box 2924, Irmo, SC 29063.
