ORANGEBURG -- Donald Boone Harris Sr., passed away on Nov. 30, 2019, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
He was born in Greeneville, Tennessee, and grew up in Centreville, Alabama. After graduation from Auburn University with degrees in Economics, Forestry, and Botany, he served as an officer with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Alameda County and USS Tallahatchie County in Naples, Italy.
He began his career in the financial services industry as a stockbroker with Legg & Co. in Baltimore, Maryland, and E. F. Hutton in Raleigh, North Carolina, before founding the first discount brokerage firm in Columbia -Brokers Exchange, Inc.
His parents were Lester Leroy and Bernice Sellers Harris and his two brothers are Alvin Leroy "Mickey" and the late Richard Lester Harris.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Wright Harris; children, Heather Wright Spoon and Donald B. Harris Jr.; grandchildren, Taylor Boone and Eden Savannah Harris; great-grandchild, Avery Grace Stone; and numerous nieces and nephews.
