GERMFASK, Mich. -- Betty Jean S. Ott, 84, formerly of Orangeburg, passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at the Berry Foster Care Home in Germfask, Michigan. She was preceded by her husband, David A. Ott ,who died in 2015.
She was born in Columbia on Jan. 18, 1934, to the late Mary Alice Stallings and Ben Hutson Johnson. She was reared by her adoptive parents, the late Ed and Flossie Sturkey.
She is survived by two half brothers, Joe Johnson and LeGrande Johnson, and two half sisters, Betsy Feezor and Sandra Holland; two sons, Allan Ott and Steve Ott; four granddaughters, Tabitha Ott, Susanna (Ott) Sharpe, Sarah Beth (Ott)Williams and Hannah Ott; a step-grandson, Andrew Berry; and two great-grandchildren, Braelynn Sharpe and Landon Williams.
Betty Jean worked for the Orangeburg Department of Public Utilities for 20 years as a cashier. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Orangeburg for four decades, and more recently, a member of First Baptist Church in Elloree.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Santee Baptist Cemetery, four miles northwest of Elloree on S.C. Highway 6. Visitation and viewing will begin an hour earlier at 10 a.m., also at the graveside. Former director of the administrative division of the Orangeburg Department of Public Utilities, Mike Sells, will deliver the eulogy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Project Good Neighbor at the Department of Public Utilities.
