Bennie "Billy" Hammond, 54, of 802 Able Road, Bamberg, died Monday June 13, 2016, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 18, at noon in the Pilgrim Baptist Church, Bamberg. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. Classmates will be flower and pallbearers. Born February 10, 1962, to Jeremiah and Earth Hammond in Bamberg. “Billy” as he was known to by family and friends was a graduate of Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School, class of 1979. He went on to attend Denmark Technical College, Denmark. He enjoyed working in the manufacturing field, with long tenures at Nassau Metals, Koyo Bearings and Dayco. On December 22, 1990, he met and married the former Genetta Middleton. At an early age, Billy joined the Pilgrim Baptist Church where he remained until his passing.
Survivors include his wife Genetta M. Hammond of the home; three children Brittany, Travis and Joshua Hammond all of Bamberg; his parents Jeremiah and Earth Hammond Sr. of Bamberg; one grandchild Bailee Hammond- Joyner and a special grandchild Zai’ Keyah Sanders; siblings Dorothy Ann (Oscar) Patterson of Georgia; James ( Margaret) and John (Sylvia) Irons of Bamberg and Annie Mae Hammond of Virginia, Jeremiah (Cheryl) Hammond Jr. of Bamberg, William (Harriet) Hammond of Columbia and Michael Hammond of Bamberg; five sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
The Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg will be in charge of the services. Friends may call at the residence or at the fellowship hall of the church after the burial.
