New Arbys' Location

A new Arby’s is being built on John C. Calhoun Drive next to the KFC.

Arby’s is expanding its presence in the Orangeburg area with a new restaurant on John C. Calhoun Drive.

Arby's spokesman Matt Baker confirmed the restaurant is going to open next door to the KFC at the site of the former Captain Pete's restaurant.

The fast-food restaurant is under construction. It’s projected to open in early February 2018, according to on-site construction officials.

Franchisee Jake Rasor and his wife, Elizabeth, also own the KFC next door. They could not be reached for comment.

The restaurant chain, which carries the motto "We have the meats," serves a variety of sandwiches, sliders, salads, fries and desserts. It also has a kids menu.

Arby's is known for its roast beef sandwiches, although it has expanded to include a number of other sandwiches.

There is also an Arby's at the Henry Travel Plaza on Old Edisto Drive and in the St. Matthews area at the Wilco Travel Plaza on Burke Road near Interstate 26.

Both Arby's are expected to remain open.

The newest restaurant is located at the site of the former seafood restaurant Captain Pete’s, which closed about three years ago. A Quincy’s Family Steakhouse used to occupy the site in the 1990s.

Arby’s, founded in 1964, touts itself as the second-largest sandwich restaurant brand in the world with more than 3,300 restaurants in seven countries.

Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc. is based in Atlanta, Georgia.
