BAMBERG – After a distinguished 28-year career as Bamberg County auditor, Margaret Meyer has retired effective June 30, 2019.
Prior to being elected auditor in 1991, Meyer worked for the Bamberg County’s Treasurer’s office and the City of Denmark.
Mrs. Meyer is appreciated by her coworkers for her wealth of knowledge and experience as a county auditor.
“Mrs. Margaret is well-respected by Bamberg County Council, county staff, and our citizens,” said Trent Kinard, Bamberg County Council chairman. “As Bamberg County auditor for 28 years, Mrs. Margaret’s strong connection to our community and her professional excellence has been an invaluable resource for the county. To say she will be missed is an understatement.”
Bamberg County Deputy Auditor Brandi Napier said, “Mrs. Margaret will be sorely missed. She is someone everyone looks up to both professionally and personally -- I know I do. She strives to be accurate, honest and kind to all who come into her office. She encourages her clerks to do the same, which is easy with a leader who expects the same from herself.”
Meyer lives in the Colston community of Bamberg County. She has two sons and three grandchildren.
“I have been so blessed to have been able to get to know and serve the taxpayers in Bamberg County,” Meyer said. “I can’t begin to say how much the people that I have worked with over the years have meant to me. When you spend hours each day with the same people, they become like family.”
Upon her retirement, Meyer said she looks forward to spending more time with her family, especially her grandchildren, becoming more active in her church, visiting other retired friends and enjoying a second cup of coffee in the mornings.
