NORWAY - Norway Girl Scout Troop 407 was host to a free soup and corn bread luncheon for area senior citizens, families and citizens on Jan. 21.
Food was donated and prepared by the troop, their parents and other volunteers, and the event and door prizes were sponsored by Three Crosses Ministries, Daniel's Pharmacy and special donors.
The meal consisted of vegetable soup, pimiento cheese and ham sandwiches, soda crackers and cornbread. Despite the rainy weather, several dozen people enjoyed the get-together. The Girl Scouts issued tickets to all who attended, and Girl Scout leader Jackie Tyler drew for the door prizes. Those attending also enjoyed games of bingo and Lucky Bowl.
Ten blankets were given to the elderly; 25 bags containing knit hats, gloves and socks were presented to children; and 35 travel mugs were awarded to game winners.

"The girls love doing things for the citizens of Norway," troop leader Bessie Peeples said. "This is (the Girl Scouts) 100th birthday and in March, we will plan a birthday party to celebrate Girl Scouting."
