EUTAWVILLE -- Eutawville Mayor Brandon Weatherford opened the October town council meeting by calling for a vote to hire the town’s interim town clerk, Carla Davis, on a permanent basis.

Also during the meeting, the mayor and council voted to hire a contractor to make renovations to the town-owned building at 221 Porcher Ave.

Three bids were submitted for the renovations. Weatherford said that two of the bids were “astronomical” compared to the third bid, which was submitted by a local contractor. The council voted unanimously to hire the local contractor for the job.

The glass skylight in the roof would be expensive to replace, so it was decided to just cap off the current skylight are for the time being and look at replacing it possibly at a later date.

In other business, the mayor said that some water customers had called to inquire about a delay in receiving their monthly water bills. He explained that the town collects all the data, but a third party actually prints and mails the bills. He said that town officials were making calls to find out what was holding up the bills.
