A Columbia woman is accused of fraudulently obtaining money from South Carolina’s First Steps program.

The State Law Enforcement Division has charged Jeanet Carlissa Rice, 51, of North Lake Drive, with three counts of forgery, value less than $10,000, and five counts of financial identity fraud.

SLED alleges Rice submitted false or forged applications and transportation forms to receive funds on behalf of the victim for services that were not rendered. Rice allegedly received $35,509 through the scheme.

The incident occurred at Little Precious Angels Child Development Center on Capernaum Road in Bamberg, according to the warrant.

The S.C. First Steps Program requested SLED investigate the incident.

The case will be pursued by the Second Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
