Three people are dead following a two-vehicle crash near Holly Hill, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Trooper 1st Class Tyler Tidwell.
The collision occurred Friday afternoon on U.S. Highway 15 near Theater Drive, about three miles west of Holly Hill.
A 2016 Honda coupe was traveling south on Highway 15 and a 1999 Acura Sedan was traveling north when the two collided.
The Honda was carrying four occupants. Two died as a result of the crash.
The Acura had two occupants. The driver died.
Orangeburg County Coroner Samuetta Marshall said the following people died in the crash:
• Walter Lee Prezzy Jr., 51, of 352 Curve Inn Road, Holly Hill
• Shea Crothers, 22, of 17 Avenue F, Charlotte, N.C.
• James Edwin Stanley, 18, of 533 Oyster Rock Lane, Sneads Ferry, N.C.
The crash is being investigated by the S.C. Highway Patrol Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
The Holly Hill Fire Department responded to the scene, finding multiple patients, according to Orangeburg County Fire District Director Teddy Wolfe said. Additional resources were sought to help free passengers.
Patients were transported by Orangeburg and Dorchester counties’ Emergency Medical Services.
There have now been 11 deaths on Orangeburg County’s roads since the beginning of the year. There were eight during the same period last year.
There have been two fatalities on Calhoun County’s roads so far this year. There were none during the same period last year.
There have been no fatal crashes in Bamberg County so far this year, as during the same period last year.
Across South Carolina, 236 people have died in 219 crashes so far this year. During the same period last year, 257 people died in 239 crashes.
