BB&T St. Matthews

The three gunmen who robbed the BB&T bank in St. Matthews hauled away cash in bags they brought themselves, St. Matthews Police Chief Michael Smalls said.

Smalls said on Wednesday that the three armed robbers entered the bank, located at 718 North F R Huff Drive, at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday. No customers were inside.

The robbers told one of the tellers to hang up the phone when they entered. Bank employees pressed an emergency alarm in the bank, which automatically alerted law enforcement.

The robbers separated the two tellers and ordered them to empty their drawers of cash, Smalls said.

The robbers left the bank in a blue Chevrolet Lumina.

In addition to the St. Matthews Police Department, other agencies assisting in the investigation include the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers said investigators are following all leads in the case.

No one was injured during the ordeal.

If anyone has information about the suspects involved in the bank robbery, they are asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
