Two people were killed Thursday night at Po Boys in Denmark. The S.C. Law Enforcement Division is investigating.

Someone shot and killed two men inside of a Denmark convenience store at 10:41 p.m. Thursday, Bamberg County Coroner Billy Duncan said.

The S.C. Law Enforcement Division is investigating the apparent armed robbery that occurred at Po Boys, located at 17729 Heritage Highway.

Rep. Justin Bamberg, D-Bamberg, said the deaths are heartbreaking.

“To call this a senseless tragedy is an understatement. These individuals were working hard to make an honest living, and no one deserves to be gunned down this way. Theft, robbery and murder will never be acceptable here,” he said.

“Thoughts and prayers are not enough. We need the entire community to help not only catch the individuals responsible, but to put a stop to the violence we have seen lately. While I understand that fear often stops people from coming forward with information when crimes occur, keeping information to yourself could result in your loved one, neighbor or even yourself being the next innocent victim of criminals who deserve to be behind bars for the crimes they have committed,” Bamberg said.

SLED is investigating at the request of Denmark Police Chief Leroy Grimes, SLED spokesman Tommy Crosby said.

Details about the incident have not yet been released and the case remains under investigation.

The bodies of the two men underwent autopsies in Newberry on Friday afternoon, Duncan said.

Duncan said he was unable to release the names of the deceased on Friday night because the parents of one of the victims lives out of the state and has to be notified.

SLED has not announced the arrest of a suspect.
