A South Carolina State University student was robbed at gunpoint behind Earle Hall early on Tuesday, according to an alert distributed around 1 a.m. by the university.

The university said the suspect was driving a dark-colored vehicle. It asked for anyone with information to contact campus public safety at 803-536-7188.

Soon after the incident, the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office took a person into custody who was in a car similar to the suspect’s vehicle.

The driver is being held on unrelated charges while the robbery is investigated.
