Santee Cooper has been getting repeated reports of scammers calling its customers over the past few days, according to a press release from the state-owned utility.
In this recent scam, the callers are often asking customers to purchase a gift card and provide the card’s information for an immediate payment.
Santee Cooper customers would get an overdue notice on their bill if they were running behind on a payment.
“We would never ask customers to buy a gift card and give us the numbers. Please do not give these scammers any financial or personal information,” said Mike Poston, vice president of retail operations.
Customers can report a call to Santee Cooper at 843-347-3399. More information is available about scams at www.santeecooper.com.
