A 23-year-old Orangeburg man was sentenced to probation for assaulting a 15-year-old girl.

Raymond Dontrell Swett of 112 Betsy Street pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and battery on May 30.

Circuit Judge Thomas W. Cooper sentenced Swett to 10 years in prison, suspended to two-and-a-half years of probation.

Cooper also ordered Swett to obtain his GED and not to have any contact with the victim.

Swett is not required to register as a sex offender.

A grand jury originally indicted Swett on the charge of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, victim under 16 years of age.

An Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office warrant accused Swett of assaulting the 15-year-old with the intent of committing second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The warrant alleged that Swett has known the teen for the last seven years and would have known that she was under the age of 16.
