An Orangeburg County man has been charged in a shooting that occurred over the long July 4th weekend.

“The victim in this case wasn’t even involved in the initial argument,” Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said.

“He was just trying to break up the fight and got shot for his trouble,” Ravenell said.

Bobby Anthony II, 46, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Ravenell said that investigators were called to the Regional Medical Center after receiving word of a shooting in Holly Hill.

The 49-year-old victim told investigators he had attempted to break up a fight at a Good Farm Road location in the early hours of July 5.

One of the two antagonists pulled out a handgun and fired twice, he said. One shot struck the victim, who was then taken to the hospital.

Anthony was also taken to the hospital for extensive injuries he suffered in the fight.

Once he was released, Anthony was then charged.

During a hearing on Thursday, bond was set on the Vance man at $15,000 cash or surety.

Inv. Addison King is leading the ongoing investigation.
