A stolen SUV was found after a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on Wednesday night, according to a sheriff’s office incident report.

The deputy reported a white Ford Freestyle failed to maintain its lane near the intersection of Cannon Bridge Road and Pontiac Lane in Cordova.

He tried to make a traffic stop, but the SUV kept going. The deputy lost sight of SUV after it turned on Sweetgum Lane.

Moments later, he found the unoccupied SUV collided with a tree near a residence at the 100 block.

A Cordova woman arrived at the scene and told deputies she was about to report the vehicle stolen. She said a neighbor called to tell her that they heard a loud boom and recommended the she take a look because it looked like her vehicle.

The woman told deputies that the vehicle had been parked in her yard all day with the keys in the ignition.

The vehicle didn’t suffer any reported damage.
