Deputies took an Orangeburg man into custody just before 2 a.m. Thursday after someone reported hearing shots fired at a Gregg Street bar.

When deputies arrived, they saw a man walking quickly to the restroom and dropping something, an incident report states.

They detained the man and placed him in a patrol car.

Deputies investigated the origin of the sound and noticed a revolver loaded with five bullets in a toilet.

Deputies said the man admitted to tossing the revolver in the toilet.

The report states he told deputies, “I don’t even know why I did it.”

Dispatchers alerted deputies that the man was prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Deputies charged him with unlawful carrying of a pistol.
