Officials were looking for a person charged with burglary in Clarendon County. Clarendon County authorities learned the suspect was in a Santee hotel room.

The Santee Police Department and the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the effort to arrest the suspect at the Clarion Inn.

“There was a shot fired through the door at deputies who were approaching the door. No deputies fired their weapons. It is not an officer-involved shooting,” Berry said.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office says it asked SLED to investigate the case after a shot was heard coming inside the hotel room. Pritchard was found dead in the room.
