Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office

An Orangeburg resident was shot and another was pistol-whipped during an apparent home invasion on Seba Street around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to an Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

When deputies arrived, they found a man with a chest wound. His mouth was bloody.

Orangeburg County EMS transported the man to the Regional Medical Center.

The homeowner told deputies that she was asleep on the couch. She woke up to the sound of a gunshot and a man striking her head with a pistol.

She told deputies that she gave the man $200 or $300.

The man left the scene.

A witness, who was also in the living room, told deputies that she was visiting the woman and drinking alcohol.

She heard a man at the front door ask for the female resident by name.

She told deputies that the next thing she saw was a man’s hand holding a semi-automatic pistol.

The witness attempted to close the door on the gunman and she ran to the back of the residence.

She heard a single gunshot, according to the report.

Deputies found a shell casing next to a large pool of blood near the couch.

In addition, they found three small bags of marijuana leading from the front porch to the roadway near the mailbox, the incident report states.

The homeowner told deputies two men came to her residence the day before and said, “I heard y’all smoking,” the incident report states.

During that incident, she closed the door and didn’t hear anything else from them.

The case remains under investigation.

The witness described the gunman as a black male, standing approximately 5-foot-6, medium complexion, thin beard, “full brown eyes” and approximately 25 to 30 years old. He wore a dark-colored skull cap, the incident report states.

Anyone who knows the gunman’s identity is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Callers don’t have to give their names.
