Two men have been arrested on drug-related charges after a motorist reported a man with a gun, according to Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.
“This good Samaritan stopped to see if two males beside a vehicle on the roadside needed help when one was said to have pulled out a weapon,” Ravenell said. “When we arrived, we found something a little different than a weapon.”
Tanner Scott, 18, of Branchville, and William Crosby, 40, of Orangeburg, were each charged with one count of trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking heroin and possession of ecstasy.
Orangeburg County Sheriff’s deputies became involved when a motorist called 911 just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday after stopping for what appeared to be a pair of men with a broken-down vehicle near Highways 4 and 400.
The motorist reported leaving them behind when one pulled out a weapon.
When Orangeburg County Sheriff’s deputies arrived they found two men who appeared to be changing a tire on their vehicle.
Deputies allegedly found illegal narcotics in a bag inside the vehicle after the men agreed to allow deputies to search the car.
Bond was set on each man during a hearing on Friday at $30,000 cash or surety.
