A preliminary autopsy shows a New Zion couple died as a result of gunshot wounds, Clarendon County Coroner Bucky Mock said.

A family member found the bodies of Jessica Regina Purvis McFaddin, 40, and Samuel Raymond “Ray” McFaddin III, 39, in the couple’s home on Thursday morning.

Their obituaries state that they died on Wednesday.

Last week, Sheriff Tim Baxley announced that their deaths were the results of a domestic violence situation.

Jessica McFaddin was a history teacher at Laurence Manning Academy. She was also the school’s public information officer and yearbook adviser.

Her funeral was held on Monday.

Ray McFaddin was an IT production specialist in the timber industry, his obituary states.

His memorial service took place on Sunday.

They have two children.

New Zion is located just outside of Manning.
