Orangeburg Department of Public Safety

The president of Southern Methodist College, located at 641 Broughton Street, reported Friday morning that someone burglarized the college’s gymnasium, according to a police incident report.

A person who was renting the gymnasium for religious services told police that he noticed someone vandalized the building.

He walked throughout the gymnasium and noticed that there was white powder from the fire extinguisher sprayed all over the building.

Someone also shattered the motion sensor lights, the report states.

A window was shattered and two window air conditioning units were missing. Three fire extinguishers were located on the other side of a nearby fence.

The front glass door to the gymnasium was shattered, yet the door remained locked.

The value of the air conditioning units is $1,000.

Someone broke into the Salvation Army’s fellowship hall on Nottingham Street twice last week, stealing a television each time.

In another burglary report, a Hampton Chase Circle resident reported on Friday that someone stole a 65-inch Phillips television, a 55-inch Samsung television, four pairs of sneakers and an Apple Surface Pro 6 tablet.

The stolen items are valued at $2,460.
