Elloree man faces felony DUI charge after Santee man injured in crash

An Elloree man has been charged in a collision that left a Santee man with broken bones.

Derrick Shivers, 55, of 1119 Harlin St., was charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury.

He posted bond on Thursday and was released from the Orangeburg County Detention Center.

The collision occurred at 9:24 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 15 and U.S. Highway 301, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Trooper 1st Class Tyler Tidwell.

Shivers was driving a 2001 Dodge pickup truck, which contained one passenger.

His truck went through a traffic control device and struck a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 48-year-old Santee man, Tidwell said.

The Santee man suffered fractured bones as a result of the collision.

Shivers and his passenger received minor injuries, Tidwell noted.

All of the involved parties were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

If convicted of felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury, Shivers faces up to 15 years in prison.
