A Cope mother heard her daughters screaming on Friday afternoon while she visited the Dog Food Center at 2406 Old Edisto Drive in Orangeburg.

She told deputies that she went inside the store, leaving her purse on the armrest as her daughters sat in the backseat with the windows down.

After being inside the store for a few minutes, she heard her daughters screaming.

The mother said an unknown man took an undisclosed amount of money from her purse.

A store employee ran after the man, but was unsuccessful.

The store employee told deputies that the unknown man often visits the liquor store on the corner, but he didn’t know the man’s name.

No one was injured during the ordeal.

The case remains open and active.
