Two people were arrested and charged with shoplifting from Fred’s Store on Main Highway on Nov. 30.
Officers responded to a call that a man and a woman were in the store and had been coming into the business for the past couple of days. The couple had been coming back to the store to make returns without receipts and were suspected of shoplifting, the report states.
The 34-year-old Conway man appeared to take items out of boxes while the 33-year-old Main Street, Bamberg woman tried to be a distraction, the report states.
When confronted by officers, the man tried to remove items from his clothes and place them in a shopping cart, the incident report notes.
Recovered stolen merchandise included binoculars and a key chain with a total value of $54.
In a separate report, a 23-year-old Barnwell man was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and simple possession of marijuana on Nov. 29. Units were dispatched to Midway Street at approximately 8:30 p.m. in reference to an intoxicated pedestrian walking in the roadway. Officers located the man near Scout Street.
According to the incident report, the man smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted he had drunk “a half pint." When contacted by police, neither the grandfather nor the brother of the man would come to pick him up, saying they could not control him and would rather he be locked up for the night to keep him safe.
