A Bamberg man is accused of setting a structure ablaze on July 5.

Brandon Carlisle Brabham, 31, was charged with one count of second-degree arson, according to the S.C. Law Enforcement Division.

SLED alleges that Brabham set fire to combustible materials at 6380 Char Augusta Highway in Bamberg, which the agency describes as a venue for gatherings.

Brabham allegedly told the officials he visited the property on July 2 and did not return until the fire was reported at 6:52 a.m. on July 5. He said he was home at the time when SLED believes the fire was started.

“A search of the defendant’s cellular telephone records indicated that he would have been near the area of the fire location at approximately 3:30 a.m. on the morning of the fire,” according to a SLED affidavit.

The SLED Arson Investigation Unit probed the fire at the request of the Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office.

The case will be prosecuted by the Second Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
