Barnwell business owner arrested for operating business without license

  • 0

Christopher All, 35, owner of Barnwell Mr. Handy LLC in Barnwell County, was arrested Wednesday by South Carolina Department of Revenue agents. He is charged with operating a business without a license.

The sales tax license for Barnwell Mr. Handy LLC was revoked by the SCDOR on June 21, 2018. According to the arrest warrant, the defendant continued to operate the business and make retail sales. On Feb. 22, 2019, the business was open and a retail purchase was made from the business.

The Barnwell County Sheriff's Department assisted with the arrest. The defendant had a bond hearing at the Barnwell County Magistrate Office. A court hearing is scheduled for April 11. If convicted, All faces fines up to $200 and/or up to 30 days in jail.

The SCDOR is committed to the fair administration of tax laws. By taking enforcement action against noncompliant taxpayers, the department seeks to prevent unfairly increasing the tax burden on those who do comply.
