A babysitter is accused of child neglect after she allegedly left siblings -- ages 5 and 6 -- alone so she could pick up the children’s mother from work nearby.
Officers arrested Teanishea Deashanae Johnson, 24, of Crossing Circle at 7:54 a.m. Wednesday and charged her with one count of unlawful neglect of a child.
According to her arrest warrant, investigators believe Johnson left the two juveniles in an apartment “unattended and asleep while she went to pick up the juvenile’s mom from work.”
Investigators say this happened between 6:45 a.m. and 7:10 a.m.
Other tenants at the apartment complex said they saw the juveniles “roaming outside wearing only thin material sleepwear.”
The “juveniles were crying, hungry and stated they were looking for their mother. The current temperature was 43 degrees,” the report states.
Investigators located the children’s mother and returned them to her.
If Johnson is convicted of this felony offense, she faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, a court-imposed fine or both.
