When going abroad, it’s an experience that you want to ensure you are fully prepared for. No matter what your age, you want to ensure you’re traveling with the right stuff at the right time. We put together this recommended list of 10 items you should pack when traveling out of the country.

1. An open mind

You’re traveling because you want to experience something new, and sometimes it’s not what you expect. Be sure to keep an open mind to ensure good adaptability and so that you’ll have some good stories to tell when you return.

2. Small travel bag

You’ll need a small bag just for your essentials, something small, compact, but functional that will hold your things with ease. You don’t want something too big or bulky, as this will make it harder to travel around. Here's a backpack we recommend as a small travel bag.

3. Cell phone

It’s good to have a travel phone just in case of emergencies while on your trip, even though the last thing you’ll want to do is be on a phone on your vacation!

4. Travel docs

If you’re going abroad, you’re going to need a passport, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get one. It’s a good idea to bring multiple forms of IDs as well as copies, if possible.

5. Maps/ guidebooks

Even though we live in a digital age, it’s still a good idea to carry some type of local map or guidebook of the area you’ll be in. You never know what hidden gem you may come across!

6. Portable chargers

There is nothing more disappointing than not having a charge on something you need when it dies, like a phone or camera. Having a portable charger ensures that you’ll always be charged up and ready to go at a moment’s notice.

7. Camera

Of course you’re going to want to capture some of the spectacular moments you will be witnessing while traveling abroad! A great way to do so is by taking a camera. You don’t have to spend money on a big fancy one, a polaroid camera works just as well and is more compact.

8. Medicine

Sometimes when traveling abroad, you’re going to get sick. It’s good to keep a couple of medicines on hand like a generic cold medicine or immune booster, and pain relievers are always a good keepsake as well. With all the walking around you’ll be doing and different things you’ll be exposed to, it’s good to keep generic medicine on hand.

9. Universal plug adapter

This is one of the most crucial items you will need on your trip, to avoid frustrations when trying to charge your items in a different country. Make sure you invest in a good adapter so you can stay charged up and prepared.

10. Book/ reading material

You’ll probably have a lot of downtime in between your adventures, so make sure you have something to fill your time when you are not out and about.
