ORANGEBURG OUT OF THE PAST

Avenue of the Oaks, 1950s. The beautiful oak trees lining the main entrance to The Oaks retirement community were planted by Mr. John Francis Brailsford of Shady Grove Nursery in the late 1940s when the Edgewood Sanitarium was then located in the former Hawthorne School of Aeronautics facility. In 1954 this facility became The Methodist Home, now known as The Oaks.
