DENMARK -- Voorhees College announces the alumni schedule of Homecoming 2019 activities with this year’s theme, “There’s No Place Like Voorhees,” modeling after Dorothy of “The Wiz,” who wanted nothing more than to go back home.

Academy Award winner Gossett speaks at Voorhees

The events begin with the Spotlight on Success: Alumni Homecoming Showcase, which will take place on Thursday, Nov. 7 beginning at 7 a.m. in the Café with a Student/Alumni Breakfast. Then at 10:30 a.m. there will be an All-College Assembly hosted by the Student Government Association, Student Support Services Program and the Career Pathways Initiative in Massachusetts Hall. During the showcase, alumni from various careers will meet and greet students and answer any questions from students in the respective areas.

Voorhees Division of IAD fulfills fundraising goal for upgrades

On Friday, Nov. 8, the National Alumni Association meeting will be held on campus at 9 a.m. in Massachusetts Hall. This year is a voting year, and all offices are up for election. Following the meeting, alumni may purchase lunch in the Cherry Blossom Room at a cost of $10 per person.

Later that evening, the Hall of Fame Banquet will be held in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center at 6 p.m. Tickets for this event are $75 per person or $600 for a table of eight. During this event, individuals will be acknowledged for their achievements in various fields and dedication to Voorhees College. This year’s emcees will be Nathanial Kemp, Mr. VC Alumni 2019, and Terrianna McCullough, Ms. VC Alumni 2019.

The Wine and Cheese Lounge will be held following the banquet in Massachusetts Hall, where heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served and spirits will be available for purchase. This event will begin at 9:30 p.m. with a general admission fee of $20.

Mr. and Miss Voorhees College crowned

The Homecoming Parade will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9 beginning at 10 a.m. on Maple Street in downtown Denmark. At 1 p.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center, the Voorhees Lady Tigers will take on the Clinton College Lady Golden Bears. The Voorhees Tigers will take on the Piedmont University Bruins at 3 p.m. The games are free for Voorhees students with a valid ID and $15 for general admission.

The Homecoming Step Show and After Party will begin at 7 p.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. The cost for this event is $20 per person. The After Party (only) is $10 general admission. Immediately following the step show, there will be a fireworks display in Academic Circle.

Evans: ‘’Voorhees is a family’

Also, on Saturday from 8 p.m.-1 a.m., there will be an Alumni Meet and Greet in Tiger Den.

The cost for this event is $10.

To culminate the homecoming festivities, on Sunday, Nov. 10, there will be a worship service and Homecoming closing featuring alumnus the Rev. Terry Law. This event is free admission and will be held in Massachusetts Hall at 9 a.m.
