On a humid and foggy Wednesday, Sept. 11 morning, Edisto High School held a 9-11 Remembrance and moment of silence around the flagpole honoring all the fallen from Sept. 11, 2001.

EHS holds first Edisto Day of the year

Four JROTC members raised the American flag to half-staff, while the remaining members stood in salute.

In Principal Brad Coleman’s speech, he read the Pledge of Allegiance, explaining each word as he read it. He also gave the timeline of the 2001 events as they happened.

“We say the Pledge of Allegiance every day, sometimes it may seem that it has become too routine and overlooked. Or could it be we really don’t understand the meaning of each word in the Pledge of Allegiance?” he said.

Most of the students present were not even born when this tragedy occurred, but they learned about it this day. Once back in the classrooms, students asked questions about 9-11 and requested to see coverage of it. The students reacted as they watched footage, and they learned the importance of September 11, 2001.
