SkillsUSA South Carolina is a state association of SkillsUSA, a national organization serving more than 300,000 high school and college students and professional members who are enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations.
Two hospitality and tourism students from the Cope Area Career Center competed in the SkillsUSA competition at Virginia College in Greenville, S.C.
Tanner Chavis of Edisto High School competed in the culinary arts competition. He prepared knife cuts for six vegetables, cut up a whole chicken, deboned and cooked the breast along with potatoes and vegetables. He also prepared a salad and a soup. Tanner won third place.
Sierra Ryant of Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High School competed in the commercial baking competition. She made six different breads including yeast bread, yeast rolls, pecan ring, pate a choux, muffins, sugar cookies and decorated a birthday cake. Sierra won third place.
