The Coterie Club of St. Matthews, which was founded in 1956, held its Holiday Debutante Ball on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Orangeburg Country Club. Members and guests were greeted in the ballroom by Mrs. Thomas Percy Culclasure Jr., president of the Coterie Club, and her husband, along with the sponsors of the debutantes.

Five daughters of Coterie members made their formal bows to society:

  • Mary Rembert Edmunds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Blake Edmunds III, escorted by Joshua Caleb Crosby.
  • Kendell Denise Fleming, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kenneth Fleming Jr., escorted by Nicholas Corey Parker.
  • Erin LeeAnne Roland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Lee Roland, escorted by Joseph Tillman Shaughnessy.
  • Anna Banks Turberville, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Richard Turberville II, escorted by Weston Brown Davis.
  • Karlynn Louise Wannamaker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Lanier Wannamaker III, escorted by William Aron Boggs, Jr.

Five granddaughters of Coterie members also made their formal bows to society:

  • Claudia Rion DuBose, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Gressette Felder Sr. and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terrence Edmundson DuBose and Mr. and Mrs. John Gressette Felder Jr., escorted by John Franklin McCabe Jr.
  • Anna Baskin Felder, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Gressette Felder Sr. and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Carroll and Mr. and Mrs. John Gressette Felder Jr., escorted by Lucas McCain Prickett.
  • Adelaide Hazel Shunk, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Mack Martin and daughter of Dr. Kendrick Alan Shunk and Dr. Rebecca Lesto Shunk, escorted by Reed Samuel Grubbs.
  • Amelia Elizabeth Shunk, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Mack Martin and daughter of Dr. Kendrick Alan Shunk and Dr. Rebecca Lesto Shunk, escorted by William Gordon Lyles IV.
  • Wimberly Rose Zadig, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Mack Martin and daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Alfred Thomas Kurt Zadig Jr., escorted by John Bonner Rink.

Two sons recognized as attending their first Coterie Debutante Ball were:

  • David Tanner Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Taylor Smith and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Marion Smith Jr., accompanied by Julia Taylor Smith.
  • William Lawton Wright, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Odell Wright, accompanied by Callie Elizabeth Haertel.

Co-chairmen of the Coterie Ball were Mr. and Mrs. Michael Stier Flintom and Mr. and Mrs. Alec Boyd McLeod III; Debutante Committee co-chairmen were Mrs. William Haynsworth Bull Jr. and Mrs. Jonathan Daniel Mangum; and Debutante Figure was Mrs. Thomas Jefferson Goodwyn Reid Jr.
