HOLLY HILL - The Holly Hill Music Club invites music lovers of all ages to dinner and the opportunity to immerse themselves in an evening of World War II-era musical entertainment on Monday, March 12 at Utopia Restaurant and Lounge.

“The show is patterned after a classic USO show and features a range of local talent starring as famous performers from the height of the USO Show-era,” said Patti Connor, Holly Hill Music Club president. “We hope our audience will leave with a renewed sense of patriotism for our country and a song in their hearts.”

“We invite everyone to come and be transported from Holly Hill to the battlefronts, where some of America’s best known performers put their talents to work lifting the spirits and strengthening the morale of U.S. service men and women,” she said. “It’s been a lot of fun putting this show together.”

Local performers who have already confirmed their participation include:

  • Dan Johnson, who will headline the show as Bob Hope.
  • Connie Simons, who will appear as the “Ship’s Doctor."
  • Patti Connor, Ann Rush and Karen Nelson, who will perform as the Andrews Sisters.

Rumor has it that Kate Smith and Phyllis Diller may also put in appearances.

The show will include unforgettable musical numbers such as: "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B," "I’ll Be Seeing You," "Sentimental Journey," God Bless America" and "Taps."

The program will also feature the Lake Marion High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Color Guard, the LMHS Dance Corps, the Holly Hill Music Club Chorus, the Holly Hill Academy Angel Chorus, along with a few surprise guests.

Dinner will begin promptly at 1900 hours (that’s 7 p.m. for those who don’t operate on USO/military time.) Tickets are $20 per person and must be purchased in advance. There will be no ticket sales on the evening of the performance. Deadline for purchasing tickets is Friday, March 9.

Checks should be made payable and mailed to: HHMC Treasurer, P.O. Box 721, Holly Hill, SC 29059.

Club members will also be selling raffle tickets at the door. Two lucky winners will receive a basket filled with goodies. Each raffle ticket will cost $1.

“Your support enables the Holly Hill Music Club to offer scholarships in the fine arts to local students,” Connor said. “Thank you in advance for attending. We look forward to seeing you on March 12 at the Utopia in Holly Hill.”

All proceeds will support the club’s scholarship programs. The Marylee Avinger Bennett Award was established in 1993, and the Reta Way McLeod Award was established in 2009. These monetary awards are given to a local high school graduate or adult musician studying piano, organ, voice, choral directing or any class in an arts department that includes music, chorus or related studies at the college level.

The club is a member of the South Carolina and National Federation of Music Clubs.
