11) This saying is trustworthy: For if we have died with Him, we will also live with Him; 12) if we endure, we will also reign with Him; if we deny Him, He will also deny us; 13) if we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. 2 Timothy 2:11-13 (HCSB)

The books of Timothy are the Apostle Paul’s letters to Timothy, his son in the ministry. Older Paul is teaching and encouraging younger Timothy as he leads congregations that were begun by Paul. Their messages have a lot of wisdom and encouragement to us today.

Second Timothy begins as he calls Timothy his son. Paul tells Timothy to be strong; share the gospel with faithful men; share in the suffering as a soldier of Jesus Christ, be faithful and do not give up, finish the race.

Take note of the (if’s) in verses 11-13. IF we have died we shall live with Christ; if we endure we will reign with King Jesus; if we deny Him (Jesus) He will deny us; if we are without faith; He is not for He cannot deny Himself.

CHRIST DIED FOR US: Christ died on a cross; to pay a debt He did not owe for those who could not pay that they might have eternal life. Stop and think about this, and how grateful we must be, Jesus gave His life for ME. Note: Revelation 3:5 (HCSB) 5 In the same way, the victor will be dressed in white clothes, and I will never erase his name from the book of life but will acknowledge his name before My Father and before His angels.

WHEN CHRIST DIED He made it possible for us to reign with Him in HIS father’s house. Imagine; that WE; who are Christ’s followers, WILL RULE WITH HIM IN HEAVEN.

DENYING CHRIST; ensures He will deny us before His Father in Heaven. Note: Matthew 10:33 (HCSB) 33 But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven.

OUR UNBELIEF will not affect Christ’s faithfulness., Malachi wrote “For I am the Lord, I change not.”

Dear friend there is a full message in this one verse in Second Timothy; Being a Christ follower is not a simple do or not do project. Following Jesus requires some true commitment, a once in a while on and off relation will not make the grade. Being a follower of Christ requires total commitment of one’s life. Like a bacon and egg breakfast, for the chicken it is just a token offering, for the pig it’s total sacrifice. Total sacrifice was what Jesus did for us on a cross, how about you? Are you totally committed to be a Christ follower? I pray you are.
