The 10th annual celebration of The Gospel Lioness, Mekiella Risher Young, will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Harleyville Community Center.
This annual gospel event is a celebration of all the dedication and hard work Young has given to her ministry through singing and ministry.
The Gospel Lioness, who is originally from Smoak but now resides in Summerville, said she is passionate about singing as a gospel artist and enjoys spreading the word of God. Young has been ministering through song for many years and sings in a group with her sisters, Anointed Sisters of Praise, the featured artists at Saturday's celebration.
A wife and mother, Young owns Shekinahz Photography and is very active in Launch Life Church of Summerville, where she is the praise and worship leader.
Young's husband is instrumental in her music ministry, serving as her manager. He also contributed to her adopted name, The Gospel Lioness. The goal was to have a name that would be catchy and describe the type of worship experience she captures during her performances, Young said.
The Oct. 13 celebration is an attempt to bring young people to one central location to worship and celebrate Christ, Young said. She said the program will feature singers, praise dancers and gospel rappers. Also appearing will be Evangelist Michelle Tucker and the group KCK, both of the Orangeburg area.
Door prizes and other giveaways will be part of the event as well.
"Boys, men, women, girls - come out if you need anything from the Lord," Young said. "We are going to have a great time in the Lord … .There will be many singers in the house.”
Admission is free, and everyone is invited.
