SANTEE -- One of the nation's most popular traditional gospel quartets will be headlining the 36th anniversary of a local music producer.
Harry Govan of Harry Govan Gospel Song Ministries has brought gospel music to local audiences for more than three decades.
Commemorating his work, HGG Song Ministries will present the 36th anniversary of Brother Harry Govan at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Lake Marion High School in Santee.
The program will showcase seven gospel entertainers, including headliner Doc McKenzie & The Hi-Lites.
For more than three decades, Doc McKenzie & The Hi-Lites have appealed to fans of traditional gospel quartets, alongside other groups such as The Canton Spirituals, The Williams Brothers and Lee Williams & the Spiritual QC’s. The 2014 Stellar Award winners have received several accolades, including nine American Gospel Quartet Convention awards.
Also performing at Govan's celebration will be the Swanee Quintet, Pastor Henry Dixon & the Truth Tabernacle Choir, Five Singing Sons, Minister Sarah Priester, Spiritual Uplifters, Spiritual Tones and the Silver Stars.
Lake Marion High School is located at 3656 Tee Vee Road in Santee.
The last day to purchase early bird tickets for $10 is Monday, Aug. 3; tickets will be $20 after Aug. 3 for adults and $5 for children 6 to 12 years of age. Tickets will be available at the door.
Tickets can be purchased at Goldsteins in Orangeburg, New Edition Beauty Salon in St Matthews and Joy Touch of Class in Holly Hill.
A portion of the ticket proceeds will benefit HGG Song Ministries' scholarship fund. HGG Song Ministries awards music scholarships annually to students who will be pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a major or minor in music (voice or instrumental) at an accredited college or university in the state. Winners are announced at the annual Lake Marion High School Honors and Awards Day Program.
