AgriBiz & Farm Expo in January in Florence
FLORENCE — The third Annual South Carolina AgriBiz & Farm Expo is set for Jan. 14-15, 2015, at the Florence Civic Center in Florence.
The South Carolina AgriBiz & Farm Expo aims to bring all aspects of the agricultural community under one roof, with educational clinics, demonstrations, and vendors ranging from agriculture lenders to equipment suppliers. The expo will include mini conferences, a Youth AgriBiz Day and South Carolina Commodity Catered Lunches.
Daily admission is only $5. The expo will also host two ticketed events: the Taste of South Carolina reception showcasing South Carolina-grown food and the Commissioner’s Breakfast that benefits the South Carolina Commissioner’s School for Agriculture. For more information, visit scagribizexpo.com.
Kick off holiday season at State Farmers Market
WEST COLUMBIA — The State Farmers Market will take you back in time at the Country Christmas Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The South Certified Shed will be transformed into a winter wonderland where you can shop a variety of Christmas trees to the find the perfect one for your home.
Learn more about antique farm equipment and get a close up look at an assortment of antique tractors. Line up on the farmers market entrance road at 2 p.m. for the antique tractor parade. Santa Claus will be driving the last tractor and would love to meet you and your little ones.
The Market Pavilion will be buzzing with holiday spirit. You will find everything from gifts and holiday décor, to great specialty food items in Five Rivers Market. Stop in and grab a bite to eat from Dupre at the Market or enjoy a seasonal treat from one of the food trucks outside.

John Deere Financial scholarships announced
For more than 11 years, Southern States Cooperative has partnered with John Deere Financial to provide competitive financing programs for Southern States customers. In 2013, the two companies established a scholarship fund available to rising college sophomores pursuing an associate’s degree focused on agriculture. Applications for the 2015 academic year will be accepted through Feb. 13, 2015.
Up to five scholarships of $2,000 each are awarded annually to students who demonstrate academic excellence, strong individual character and significant personal involvement in agriculture. Following the completion of the academic year, scholarship recipients will also receive a paid summer internship at a Southern States Retail or Agronomy location.
