RICHMOND, Va. — Deja Dickens scored a team-high 16 points as the Claflin University women’s basketball team fell to Virginia Union, 68-52, in a non-conference road game in Richmond.

With the loss, the Lady Panthers fall to 1-3 on the season. Virginia Union improves to 4-1.

Claflin had three players to record double-digits as Dominique Williams and Jhanice Stokes scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Ashley Fields scored nine points and led the Lady Panthers on the boards with six rebounds.

Collectively, Claflin shot 32.8 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from behind the 3-point arc and 45.5 percent from the charity stripe.

Rachel Pecota and Alexis Johnson paced Virginia Union scoring 21 and 20 points, respectively. Virginia Union had four players to score in double-figures as Rejoice Spivey scored 12 and Shareka McNeill dropped in 10 in the win.

Johnson recorded a double-double in the contest, pulling in a game-high 13 rebounds for Virginia Union, who out-rebounded Claflin by 12, 38-26.

Virginia Union shot 47.2 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from three-point range and 63.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Claflin will remain on the road as they travel to Jackson, Tenn., this Saturday (Nov. 25) to open Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play at Lane College. The Lady Panthers will then travel to Memphis, Tenn. to face LeMoyne-Owen in a SIAC conference game on Monday, Nov. 27.
