The quest for a state championship in the T&D Region was pared down to just three teams after one week of playoff match-ups.

Top-seed Bamberg-Ehrhardt and Hunter-Kinard-Tyler each posted dominating first-round victories to start playoffs last Friday night. Each team will face Pee Dee Region foes in the second round this week.

The Red Raiders and nearby Woodland Wolverines from Dorchester County are one win away from a Class 2A third-round clash, while the H-K-T Trojans look to take down the "giant" in Darlington County known as the top-seeded Lamar Silver Foxes.

Speaking of collisions, Calhoun Academy could host a state title battle between backyard rivals on Nov. 18. The T&D Region's undefeated team from Andrew Jackson Academy of Ehrhardt, along with Jefferson Davis Academy of Blackville, earned ‘byes’ into the SCISA 8-man Division II semifinals.

Should the Confederates extend their Palmetto State's best active 35-game winning streak against Clarendon Hall this week, and the Raiders break through against Patrick Henry, the two teams will meet in the 1 p.m. final in St. Matthews in two Saturdays.

TEAM OF THE WEEK - Hunter-Kinard-Tyler

The Trojans rolled past Whitmire 50-10 to claim their first playoff victory. It was also the most points scored by an H-K-T team in a postseason game in school history. Oddly enough, the Trojans haven't had senior quarterback Devante Scott available to play the past two weeks. H-K-T is hopeful that he will be available this week at Lamar.

FIRST-ROUND GRIDIRON GIANTS

Dahlil Wilkins & A.J. Williams (both of Bamberg-Ehrhardt) - 2 TDs each

Ster’Lyn Evans (Calhoun County) - 8 receptions, 118 yards, TD

BY THE NUMBERS

Woodland’s 27-0 win was not only its second win in nine meetings over Silver Bluff, but the first at Petticoat Junction. The Wolverines are 0-3 all-time against Friday’s opponent Carvers Bay, the two teams last met in 2005... This marks the third consecutive postseason meeting between Bamberg-Ehrhardt and Latta. The Red Raiders lost 38-35 in 2015, then avenged the loss last year with a 37-12 victory. Both wins came on the road for the victors... The series between Hunter-Kinard-Tyler and Lamar is also deadlocked at 1-1, with the Trojans winning 32-24 in 2014 and the Silver Foxes victorious 34-6 in 2015... Andrew Jackson Academy has won the last three meetings against Clarendon Hall... Jefferson Davis Academy has lost eight meetings with Patrick Henry, including a 32-12 loss on Sept. 22.

QUOTABLE

“We went 1-0 tonight and it goes back to 0-0 come next week. Enjoy it tonight, tomorrow it's over with. This game is over with, we have to get ready for Latta.” - Bamberg-Ehrhardt head coach Kevin "Butch" Crosby.
