past Claflin women
FLORENCE — It was another NCAA II inter-conference game as the SIAC’s Lady Panthers battled Francis Marion of the Peach Belt Conference. The Lady Panthers, 1-2, came into Wednesday night fresh off a 62-61 win over CIAA power Virginia State University last Sunday. The Patriots defeated Southern Wesleyan 97-69 on Saturday.
Francis Marion defeated Claflin 80-54.
Midway through the first half, the Patriots gained a double-digit lead of 10 points at 16-6. Over the next three minutes, the Lady Panthers went on a 9-2 run to cut the lead to three, 18-15, at the 7:07 mark.
From that point the ball bounced the Patriots’ way as they got every loose ball and made impressive shots, outscoring the Lady Panthers 16-4 for a 34-19 halftime advantage. Dee Gray led the Patriots at the break with 5 points. Tylesha Brown led Claflin with 6.
In the second half, the Patriots built a 24-point advantage on three occasions before the 10-minute mark, the last being 55-29. The lead ballooned to 31 at 64-33 at the 7:34 mark. The Patriots cruised on to the 80-54 win.
Claflin was led in scoring by Brown with 15 points and Talaya Robinson with 10.
Erin Pinkett led the Patriots with 15 points, followed by Kristen Dickerson with 12 and Kim Roach with 10.
The Lady Panthers return home for Saturday’s homecoming match-up with Concordia (Selma). Tip-off is 1:30 p.m.

ANDERSON — The Gladiators came away with a blowout win over Anderson on Tuesday.
Russell Famble recorded a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Caleb McLaughlin also scored 20 points. Shykeem Marlow also provided 20 points with six rebounds, five steals and four assists. Brannon Dark added another double-double for OCPA with 18 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Torrence Bryant rounds out the top scorers for the Gladiators with 13 points.
OCPA (3-3) will face Greenville Tech next Thursday.
to hold final meeting

The Orangeburg Touchdown Club will meet Thursday at noon at the Cinema at the Old Orangeburg Mall.
Today, the Touchdown Club welcomes Ray Tanner, the athletic director and former head baseball coach of the University of South Carolina. The Orangeburg Touchdown Club will honor Bamberg-Ehrardt’s Sumner Cooler and Nick Halmon as well as Edisto’s Tyrell Maxwell as this week’s Players of the Week.
Lunch will be served. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m.
