Calhoun County sweeps

Edisto B-team in doubleheader

The JV Saints took a 7-3 win against the Edisto B-team on Saturday, before taking game two by a score of 11-4.

In game one, CC was led at the plate by Johnathon Keller 2-for-2 and Konner Whitfield, Coy Ford, Nick Thompson (double), Josh Zeigler (double), Robert Easterlin, and Russell Brunson with a hit apiece.

In game two, leading hitters for CC were Keller 2-for-3, and Coy Ford, Josh Zeigler, Blake McKoy, Fowler Stabler, Konner Whitfield, and Russell Brunson with a hit apiece.

CCHS JV (2-2 overall, 0-2 in region play) travels to Bamberg-Ehrhardt on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. game.

EHRHARDT - Clarendon Hall JV ran its record to 4-0 on Friday at Andrew Jackson Academy with an 18-1 win.

Josh Kennard threw a complete-game no-hitter, while collecting 12 strikeouts. Hunter Richbourg led the JV Saints at the plate, going 3-for-3 with 3 RBI. Brantley Hodge was 3-for-5 and Kylic Horton was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI.

The JV Saints play on Tuesday at home in Summerton against St. John's Christian.

Williams makes


Edie Williams of Elloree recorded a hole-in-one on hole No. 16 at the Players Golf Course in Manning on February 15.

Her shot has qualified for the Santee Cooper Trophy Five Award program, which will result in her receiving a parchment signed by the Honorable Henry McMaster, Governor of South Carolina.


Claflin baseball to

play at Coker

The Claflin University baseball team will travel to Hartsville on Tuesday for a mid-week contest against Coker College.

First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. on the Tom J. New Field at Dave Schmotzer Stadium.

Claflin will enter the game on a winning note, taking two games from Saint Augustine’s University last weekend at Mirmow Field, improving the season record to 4-17.

In the doubleheader sweep, the Panthers received two outstanding pitching performances from Dillon Parker and Cleveland Westbrook. Parker picked up his first win of the season, while Westbrook improved to 3-1 on the season.

Darrell Langston, who homered twice against Saint Augustine’s, currently leads the Panthers in hitting with a .381 average, six home runs and 22 RBI.

Three other Claflin players are hitting over the .300 mark, Johnathan Parnell II (.360) with team-highs in runs scored at 24 and seven doubles, Clyde Parker (.321) and Grayland Fowler (.302).

Meanwhile, the Cobras are winless in the last 10 games for a 9-10 record.

The Cobras are led offensively by Bryson Conner with three home runs, 16 RBI and a .343 batting average. Brooks Estrada leads the team in hitting at a .386 clip.

Michael DeVecchio is the top pitcher for Coker with a 3-2 record and staff 28 strikeouts.

Claflin softball to

play at Georgia College

The Claflin University softball team will head to Milledgeville, Ga., Tuesday, Mar. 13, to take on Georgia College in a non-conference softball doubleheader. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Lady Panthers, who are in the midst of a 15-game road swing, swept Paine College in their 2018 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) opening weekend (Saturday-Sunday, Mar. 10-11).

Over the course of the three-game series, Claflin scored 88 runs, while only allowing six from the Lions. The Panthers scored 27 runs in the game one of Saturday’s doubleheader, 28 in game two and 33 runs in the single game on Sunday. The 33 runs on Sunday was the program's best since joining the NCAA Division II ranks.

LaKaylin Lee had an outstanding conference series. For the weekend, Lee finished with six runs, six hits, including two home runs in the third game with 13 RBI.

Claflin brings in a 10-13 overall record. Lee leads the Lady Panthers in batting with a .435 average. Norman leads the pitching staff with a 6-6 record.

Georgia College enters the doubleheader with a 13-9 record. The Bobcats are led by Amber Coy, batting .383 on the season.
