Voorhees triple jumper
ranked No. 2 in NAIA
DENMARK - Voorhees College track and field student-athlete Dontavious Patrick, a sophomore, is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation among all triple jumpers in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) rankings.
Patrick finished first in the triple jump at the recent track meet at Savanah State University. His mark of 14.78 not only earned him the win, but qualified him for the 2018 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field championship, which will be held in Gulf Shores, Ala. May 24- 26.
“To hold the number two ranking is an honor and motivation for me to reach the number one spot," Patrick said. "At every meet, I give it my all when I am out there, because I have a responsibility to achieve my academic and athletic goals while representing Voorhees College."
Coach Jeffrey Hughes said it makes Voorhees and the team shine when an athlete receives such a ranking.
“I encourage Patrick and his teammates to keep excelling, because they never know where this opportunity can take them,” Hughes said.
Patrick is a sociology major from Atlanta. The team’s next meet will be at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C. on April 13-14.
