Holly Hill Academy took a 3-0 volleyball win against St. John's on Tuesday.

The Lady Radiers won with set scores of 25-11, 25-23 and 25-11.

Leading the way for HHA was Katie Rohl with 8 kills, 8 aces, 24 receptions and 3 blocks. Maelee Troutman added 5 kills, 4 aces,1 reception and 1 block. Brooke Fennessy had 4 kills, 2 aces, 11 receptions and Savannah Shuler had 1 kill, 18 assists, 7 receptions and 1 block. Tara Bilton added 2 kills, 4 aces, 1 assist and led the team with 34 receptions.

The Lady Raiders finished the regular season with a 13-2 overall record and an 11-1 Region 3-A record. HHA will compete in the SCISA State Volleyball Tournament on Friday, Oct. 20, and Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Myrtle Beach Sports Center at 2115 Farlow Street in Myrtle Beach.

Bethune-Bowman 3

Hannah-Pamplico 0

BOWMAN — Bethune-Bowman took a 3-0 win at home on Wednesday to eliminate Hannah-Pamplico in the first round of Class A state playoffs.

The Lady Mohawks won with set scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-16.

Bethune-Bowman, a No. 2 seed, will play next on Monday at 6 p.m. at No. 1 seed Baptist Hill.

volleyball sweeps

Claflin, with 3-0 win

Fayetteville State University volleyball defeated Claflin University for a second time this season, winning in straight sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-22) Wednesday at the Tullis Arena.

With the home loss, Claflin is now 5-14 on the season, while FSU improved to 16-7.

The win gave Fayetteville State the season sweep of Claflin. They won the earlier meeting in three sets on Oct. 6.

In the first set, Fayetteville State jumped out to a 9-3 lead, but the Lady Panthers reeled off five of the next six points to trail 10-8. That was as close as Claflin got in the set. FSU scored the next five points, building a 15-8 lead. Fayetteville State's biggest lead of the set was 22-12, before closing it out 25-16.

The second set was back-and-forth early on, with seven ties and eight lead changes. The Lady Panthers held the advantage on four separate occasions, the last being at 9-8. Following an 11-11 tie, FSU outscored the Lady Panthers 14-5 the rest of the way, winning 25-16.

In the third set, Claflin erased a 5-0 deficit with an 18-10 scoring run to lead 18-15. The Lady Panthers held the margin until FSU pulled even at 19-19 with a 4-1 run. FSU finished the set by scoring six of the last nine points for the 25-22 victory.

Claflin was led Diara Lewis with a match-high 10 kills and Jhi Piper-Murles with 15 digs. Chania Rispress put of 22 assists for the Lady Panthers, while Kiana Ware added nine digs. Jordan Wallace recorded three blocks for Claflin.

Jayde Jacobs and Raven Ousley-Brown topped FSU stats with nine kills each. Avery Shaw had 19 assists and Arlicia Ortiz added 16 digs for the Lady Broncos.

Claflin will play host to Clark Atlanta University on Friday (Oct. 20) at 6 p.m. at Tullis Arena.
