Calhoun Academy takes title
at Branchville Lady Jacket
Softball Invitational Tournament
BRANCHVILLE - Calhoun Academy won the Branchville Lady Jacket Softball Invitational Tournament this past weekend, after an exciting 7-6 victory over the host Lady Jackets in the championship game.
Behind the pitching and hitting of Belle Polin, the Lady Cavaliers came away as champions. Polin had a two-run homer and was the victorious pitcher in the title contest.
After Friday and Saturday pool play, the No. 2 seed Calhoun Academy defeated the No. 3 seed Woodland Wolverines 6-1 in extra innings to advance to the championship game. Rebekah Haigler was the winning pitcher. The other semifinal game pitted the No. 4 seed Branchville Lady Jackets against the No. 1 seed Edisto Cougars.
Behind the pitching of 7th-grader Anslee McAlhany, the Lady Jackets defeated the Cougars 5-1 to advance to the championship game.

The Lady Cavaliers edged out a win against the Lady Raiders on Tuesday.
Rebekah Haigler pitched for the win, while Payton Jamison shouldered the loss.
Leading Hitters for CA were Bari Arden Arant, 3 for 4; Belle Polin, 2 for 3; Madelyn Smith 1 for 3, with a triple; Rachel Ulmer. 1 for 3 with a double.
Leading Hitters for HHA were Sarah Becker, 3 for 4, with a home run and a double; Brooke Fennessy 2 for 4.
Calhoun Academy is 5-2 on the season and plays next on Thursday at Thomas Sumter Academy.
golf wins match
OPS won its first match of the season on Wednesday, shooting a 167.
Matthew Zeigler had the low round for the Indians, carding a 40. Harris Holstein and Liam Worley each chipped in scores of 42 for the 9-hole match.
OPS will play again on Thursday at Paw Paw Country Club in Bamberg against Bamberg-Ehrhardt.

Caitlyn Hollingsworth pitched for the win on Tuesday against the Lady Raiders.
Leading Hitters for CA were Blakley Kingsmore, 2 for 2, with a triple; Caitlyn Hollingsworth, 2 for 2, with a triple, and Kaylee Zeigler, 1 for 3, with a triple.
Leading Hitters for HHA were Natalie Paradise, 1 for 1, Madison Steele, 1 for 2, with a double, and Dakota Canterbury, 1 for 2.
Calhoun Academy is 1-0 and plays next on Tuesday at Williamsburg Academy.
The Red Raiders doubled up Edisto in a 4-2 victory on Tuesday, in what was a back-and-forth contest.
Edisto jumped out to a one-goal lead on a score by Bailey Friers.
B-E tied it up with a goal by Hunter Bridges.
Then, Alex Ahlin put the Red Raiders in front 2-1 with a goal, putting the Red Raiders up at the half.
Midway through the 2nd half, Edisto evened up the score at 2-2, before Jonathan Williams put the Red Raiders back on top with his first goal on the varsity level.
Ahlin finished off the scoring by netting his second goal of the night.
B-E (2-0) will host Orangeburg Prep on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Bamberg-Ehrhardt took a 3-1 win against Edisto on Tuesday.
It was the season-opening contest for both squads.
B-E (1-0) will take on Colleton County at home on Friday at 5:30 pm.

SUMMERTON - The Saints opened the season with a 13-12 win in 8 innings against TKA on Tuesday.
Clarendon Hall was led at the plate by Jonathan McIntosh, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. Dylan Way was 1-for-2 and pitched 2 innings with 3 strikeouts.
Bobby Ashba got the win on the mound, pitching four-and-two-thirds innings with 6 strikeouts and allowing just one hit. Ashba also went 2-for-5 at the plate with 4 RBI. The Saints will be at home on Friday to play Dorchester Academy.

SUMMERTON - Clarendon Hall took a 9-2 home win against The Kings Academy of Florence on Tuesday.
Blane Kennard got the win on the mound, pitching 3 innings with 5 strikeouts. Kennard was also 1-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBI. T.J. Curlee was was 2-for-3 at the plate, with 2 RBI. Christian Higbe and Wilder Robinson were also 2-for-3.
The Saints will play on Friday at home against Dorchester Academy at 4 p.m.
